A Short Story

I recently wrote a short story for a writing contest. I chose the fantasy genre, naturally, and I’m waiting for the results. I thought I would link it here so you can read about the world of Eldreanon where a young woman who, after losing her husband, becomes someone new in hopes of saving her people from darkness. It’s just under the limit of 3000 words, and it was fun to write, if not a little difficult to make sure I created a full story, with heart, within that small format. Before I wrote my first book, I was intimidated by my total word count goal, but when writing this short story it felt restrictive to not fully fall into the world of Eldreanon and it’s people. I think writing short stories is a good exercise for fleshing out a world you’ve created, and diving deep into your characters, all in a few words.

I hope your enjoy this story and I plan to write more. I’m also writing book two of my new series. The working title is “Heir” and it’s going to answer some questions, introduce new characters, and start to spread out into the world of Tryindol.

P.S.

Sophie is such a sweet dog. Don’t get me wrong, she is a puppy and still likes to stick her nose into things where it doesn’t belong, but she has the kindest eyes. She’s also fearless. It shocks me how unconcerned she is with loud noises. On July 4th she slept through the fireworks, during a recent thunderstorm she lifted her head once, looked over at me, then went back to sleep. God truly blessed me when he brought her into my life at just the right time.
